Who are we? | What do volunteers do? | How can I become a volunteer? Assisting the terminally ill and their loved ones is a great privilege, is richly rewarding, and requires prayerful commitment. Jordan House needs more volunteer caregivers, and we are asking Christians who feel our Lord’s call in their hearts to contact us and discuss the possibility of service with Jordan House. A volunteer application form is available by calling Jordan House at (831) 471-9982 or download the application here. Note - the application is a MS Word Document.
Who are We:In November 2005, Jordan House volunteers began serving the terminally ill in the Santa Cruz community. Jordan House volunteers are loving, committed Christians of various denominations from the Santa Cruz community. Each has been trained to care for the terminally ill, and has demonstrated a heart for this service to others. We take seriously our Lord Jesus’ instruction to love our neighbor and offer “a cup of water” in His name.
Pat Gorman and the members of Jesus, Mary and Joseph House: The community at Jesus, Mary and Joseph Home would like to thank Jordan House for your loving and prayerful assistance in caring for our client. Your volunteers brought our client a lot of comfort and joy and were a tremendous support to her and our community. We were very blessed to have their help in caring for our client.
What We Do:Jordan House volunteers care for people in their own home who are enlisted in a Hospice program, such as Hospice Caring Project and Heartland Hospice, supplementing their work in situations where more help is needed than Hospice can provide. Our volunteers offer companionship, listening ears, prayer, scripture reading, if appropriate and welcomed, light housekeeping, gardening, meal preparation, gentle massage, help with personal hygiene, errands, etc., as we are able. We provide understanding and support for client’s loved-ones, and a calm, quiet, comforting presence in the home.
"When (our volunteer) comes, we feel an angel has been to visit, restoring sanity in small and big ways. Her presence blesses our home, and my Mom." Denby Adamson
Become a Volunteer:This requires your prayerful consideration. Becoming a volunteer for Jordan House may be the beginning of a wonderfully rewarding new chapter in your life. It is a great privilege to be invited into the intimacy of the final days of a person’s life, and along with that privilege comes the responsibility to be the best companions and caregivers we can be. To that end, Jordan House will conduct mandatory training sessions for our volunteer family which will include physical care of the dying, emotional and spiritual care, and communication and boundary setting. In addition to the initial training program, we will meet together once a month to share our experiences and learn from one another. After training has been completed, we ask that each volunteer make an ongoing time commitment for one year.
May God continue to bless you and your ministry to the terminally ill.

Please print out, complete and return the form to Jordan House at P.O. Box 66256, Scotts Valley, CA 95067. If you have any questions, please call 471-9982 or email administrator@jordanhousesc.org If you are interested in volunteering for one of our fund raiser committees, please contact administrator@jordanhousesc.org I cared for my 52 year old husband for 6 months in a hospital bed at home with the help and instruction of Hospice, but when I needed a blessing and an angel, I found Jordan House listed in the church bulletin. Two kind, gentle, people came to help me and my husband was so pleased to meet them too. How these wonderful people would be willing to come out at 7 pm, to help with our daily chores, to maintain some order, and also have the spirit to share in conversation concerning our faith and our fears. I will always remember their cheerful request, "what can I do for you?"
