Jordan House and the Human Race:
On May 10, 2008 Jordan House participated in the 2008 Human Race in Santa Cruz, CA where we raised $2000 for Jordan House.
The Human Race is a nationwide community fundraising event for nonprofit organizations, schools, and faith based organizations. This race is the Central Coast's largest collaborative community fundraiser, and features a 10k walk and fun run beginning at Natural Bridges State Park and winding along one of our most beautiful natural resources – West Cliff Drive. Organizations and businesses recruit walkers/runners/pledge-gatherers to raise funds. Participating nonprofit organizations receive 75-85% of monies collected and the Volunteer Center receives the remaining percentage to coordinate and stage the event.
A Musical Gift presents a Benefit for Jordan House
Jordan House’s second fundraising event took place on Friday, April 18, 2008, 6:00-9:00 pm. It started with a silent auction from 6:00-7:30 pm , and concert following from 7:30-9:00 pm. at Santa Cruz Bible Church, 440 Frederick St., Santa Cruz.
The First Jordan House Annual Wild Flowers Concert Event featured Rebecca Jackson, (www.rjviolin.com), Founder and Artistic Director of Music in May (www.musicinmay.com). She pioneered a violin curriculum and introduced the beauty of music to nearly 250 Ukrainian and Romanian children. She has been soloist with the Cluj Symphony Orchestra of Romania, the Kiev Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Classical Philharmonia of California, UC Santa Cruz Orchestra, FOSJA orchestra of Puerto Ric, among others.
The purpose of our concert was to raise funds and further introduce Jordan House, a new service to our community. Jordan House is a Christian, non-profit organization whose ministry is to care for the terminally ill, supplementing hospice in the work that they do. Jordan House volunteers have been serving in this way since November 2005 and the responses from those served have been very gratifying!

Jordan House participates in “The Relay for Life.”
Jordan House had the opportunity to particpate in the American Cancer Society’s annual fund-raising event on July 20-21, 2007. This event, which draws thousands each year, does more than raise funds for cancer research. It brings an awareness to people of the toll that this dreaded disease is having and promotes an awareness through educational and medical check-ups. We felt this would be a good opportunity to not only assist in this effort but to bring an awareness to people of our ministry. Part of our promotional effort was donating bottles of water with Jordan House labels to those who participated in this event. See our photos!
Beach Luau
To the many friends of Jordan House,
As we came closer to the date of this luau I began to
realize the Herculean efforts that so many people put in
to make this event such a success. From the beginning
our primary goal for the luau was to let the public
become more aware of Jordan House and our ministry
of compassionate Christian care to those who are dying.
Secondly, we wanted to have a way to say thank you
to those who have supported this work from the onset.
Lastly we wanted to begin a fund that we could use for
a live-in facility as we trust God to provide for us.
I could never imagine the planning and ongoing direction
that would be required to make this luau come
together, so let me start with a huge thank you to our
two Chairpersons, BB Wong of All About Properties
Brubeck-Wong Realtors and Sabrina Shewfelt of Coldwell
Banker Real Estate. They took our seed thought
of “what can we do to promote our ministry?” and this
event is the culmination of hundreds of hours of work
on their part.
Words are inadequate to convey our appreciation to
these two women.
Once B.B. and Sabrina began to work, people and organizations
became involved in helping us. Monterey Bay
Academy, an excellent private high school learned of
our plans to have a luau and offered their entire private
beach area for our exclusive use. Their cooperation
including their facilities has been beyond our imagination.
Thank you MBA!
Audrey Blumeneau, Web Designs offered to do our
design work and maintain our site for the length of our
luau advertising. If you have not seen this very interactive
site please go to www.jordanhousesc.org and look.
Audrey has done a professional job. While you are at
our web site look at the large number of gold, silver and
bronze sponsors who have given funds and services,
not for a tax deduction but because they believed in
what we are doing. Our sponsors are also listed in this
program and we say thank you to each of them.
The Aloha Island Grill agreed to prepare and supervise
the luau buffet. Not only is this one of our favorite
restaurants it is a fun place to dine.
KAPU, 104.7FM, a Hawaiian radio station in Watsonville
has produced many spot announcements through their
medium of the airwaves.
Many thanks go out to Good Times for all the print media
coverage to help spread the word about our Jordan
House Beach Luau.
All of the Jordan House Board of Director members
have worked hard to make this luau a special event but
I would like to single out two who have put in so much in
time, travel and expertise; Sally Thomas, our Administrative
Manager and Jerry Lichac, our Treasurer. They
have coordinated, designed, provided CAD drawings
of the site, and been our liaison to every other person
mentioned.
Finally, but by no means last are our wonderful volunteers
who worked on Friday and arrived early
Sunday to get the luau set up; we could not have done it
without you!
To you who are reading this letter of thanks, my prayer
is that this luau met your every expectation and that you
will become a supporter in helping us spread the good
news that we are here to serve those facing the end of
life with the hope of Jesus Christ.
On behalf of the Jordan House Board of Directors and
our client volunteers;
Jim Seybert, President
Warm words from the Luau chairpersons,
We are excited to have hosted a summer (Kau wela) afternoon of fun for family (o ‘hana) and friends (Hoaloha) of the Jordan House. Thank you for being such a big part of making our 1st annual fundraiser celebration (Ho ‘olaule ‘a) a success. We hope you enjoyed the beautiful sounds of the soothing Hawaiian Music, the smells of freshly grilled authentic Hawaiian food, and the graceful sights of our Hula Show. Mahalo to all our guests & volunteers for bringing the vision closer of someday providing a community residence that will house those that Jordan House will care for.
Warmly,
Sabrina Shewfelt, B.B. Wong and Sally Thomas.
